" For the Love of Cars " premieres on Australian television

The much awaited and extremely polished Classic Car television show premiered on ABC tv last night at 9.30 p.m., much to the relief of Classic Car lovers and Investors alike. The showing became the first programme featuring value-rising Classic Cars that has been shown in Australia on free to air television, and marks a response to the rapidly rising interest in cars that make money, year on year.

The episode shown last evening was the first of a seven part series, and featured the game-changing Ford Escort Mk1 Mexico. The programme traced the history of how the Escort Mexico came into existence, and the reason behind it's commencement. As Philip Glenister said, the The Ford Escort was already selling well in Britain from 1966 onwards, although needed something to kick it along to become the car that a generation just had to have. As the car was already affordable, the answer lay in Rallying, as Ford entered cars in the 1968 London to Mexico Rally. Ford Escort's won the event, and so Ford's answer was to create the " Mexico ", which embraced the " Boy Racer " in everyone in Britain and across Europe at that time.

The car was easy to drive thanks to rack and pinion steering and the perfect wheelbase, quick for it's time, and sounded great featuring a 1600 cc Crossflow engine. The car also had racing stripes down it's sides and smaller quarter front bumpers, as well as 13'' Revolution wheels and "Twin Cam Flares " added to the front guards/wings, and was also lower that standard Escort's.

The story of the car ran throughout this epsode which focussed around a car that the programme purchased for 8,000 ( AU$14,300 ) as a Barn Find in pieces, with a LOT of rust in the chassis rails !, particularly on the nearside ( left hand, or gutter side ). The car was completely stripped, cut and shut on the L/H/F/ corner, and rebuilt without the sunroof that came with the car. The result was a sensational car in Sebring Red that will be auctioned in the last episode, and we would be expecting " For the Love of Cars " to realise upwards of 20,000 ( AU$ 35,740 ) for this iconic Classic Car, showing a profit of some AU$ 10,000 after all parts and labopur are considered. Run out and grab an Escort Mk1 before they rise to an unobtainable level !!.
