1964 Ex-Works Sunbeam Tiger sells for a record $140,000

It was an unusually sunny Wednesday in Britain when the Brightwells Auction was held upon the 14th of May. The lovely weather must have had an effect on the bidders present, as prices were high and records were set.

As reported within the many pages of the Classic Car Weekly, the Ex-Works Sunbeam Tiger that was up for sale went for GB£78,400 ( AU$140,000 ), and was then closely followed by many other high value sales. There was the Bentley Mk VI that sold for well above expectations, at GB£42,560 ( AU$76,000 ), after having been valued at GB£34,000. The car was a 1950 example, and had been very faithfully and carefully maintained throughout it's long life, and had also been the subject of a GB£50,000 mechanical rebuild along the way. It had been originally supplied new to an Australian buyer, who had then taken it to the USA in the 1990's, and then back into the United Kingdom in 2000.

There were several Jaguar E-Types on sale at this auction, with prices varying quite widely due to the variety of conditions of the vehicles. One of the nicer versions was a 1965 E-Type 4.2 fhc, which sold for GB£52,640 ( AU$94,000 ). Another very nice E-Type was originally owned by Bill Maynard, who played the part of Selwyn Froggitt in a British television series.

In another suprising sale, a very old and tired 1949 Landrover Series 1 sold for use a Project, for the princely sum of GB£8400 ( AU$15,000 ). A 1972 Lotus Europa JPS ( black and gold ) sold for GB£21,728 ( AU$38,800 ), and was amongst several Lotus's on sale at this auction.

There are literally hundreds of Classic Car Auctions going on around Britain every year, and with so much interest in the subject these days, numbers will rise, as more and more people cash in on the massive returns
