First Range Rover sells for $244,000 ( £132,000 )

The first production Range Rover sold for £132,000 was sold on the 4th of September at the Salon Prive' auction, after much speculation as to what the eventual price would be.

As reported in the 10th of September issue of Classic Car Weekly, this model was the first of the initial batch of pre-production cars that were badged as VELAR, and was registered with the Croydon area number plate of YVB 151H.

Barry Clow of Silverstone Auctions said of this sale " The car sold for a figure that was spot on the estimate value. We had a high level of interest on the day as a result of all the publicity ".

Although the purchaser was not revealed, it is confirmed that Jaguar Land Rover was not the new owner.
