The Rise of Jaguar's XJS Convertible

March 7, 2014

The Jaguar E-Type was a legendary car, but the model that followed the E Type, the  Jaguar XJS, is much less well known but has excellent potential as an investment vehicle.

We are seeing dramatic rises in the values of good XJS Convertibles, and I guess that it is only fitting that this should be the case, given that the XJS was a more refined and " Smoother " car than the E-type, both from the perspective of driveability as well as of interior appeal. The E-Type had no wood features to speak of on the inside, and of course this was remedied with the full leather interior of the XJS that had wood grain dash segments and door cappings.

Good low mileage tidy XJS Convertibles of the late 80's and early 1990's used to be available for GB£6-8000 throughout September 2013 (AU$11,300 to AU$15,100), when we were perusing the U.K. market for a nice example, and that was the price that we were happy to pay.

Unfortunately, we did not buy one in October 2013, and by November the new rush had already taken hold. This meant that a good XJS was now upwards of GB£9000 to buy in the UK, and rising !!. We managed to locate one that was delivered to our U.K. facility in late November, and despite having paid just GB£6500, the car was still a very good base for a Great Investment. This exact car could now be resold for GB£12,000 (AU$22,650) or more in March 2014, and will now continue to rise from here. A Lister Jaguar XJS Convertible just sold at the Bonhams Auction of the 9th of December, 2013 for GB£39,100. Happy Buying !!
