The Trusty Triumph Stag finally receives some recognition.

March 11, 2014

Since time began, or more exactly since the Triumph Stag and Triumph TR6 were built alongside each other at British Leyland's factory, the TR6 has always far outstripped the Stag in terms of growth. The TR6 went from a GB£4000 ( AU$7547 ) car in 1969 to the lofty heights of GB£20-25,000 ( AU$37,000-47,000 ) in 2014 for a really immaculate example, and even more for an extremely low-mileage and original rust free car with Full Service History.

Sadly for the Stag, while the TR6 could do no wrong, and was always seen as the true epitome of a British Sports Car with good performance and very classic  lines, the Stag lingered around with endless stories of unreliability and pain. The car featured a 3000cc V8 engine that had steel cylinder head studs and alloy heads, a combination that was never ever going to be too successful, given the love for aluminium and steel to react with one another when any water is nearby. Almost all of the cars originally built had cylinder head gasket and cylinder head issues, and this kept values low. Now however, with new materials coming online every day, more and more of these cars are having the vital work done to give them back the reliability that they never had. As a result, values are now rising, and so now is the time to buy, given that one can purchase as good car for under GB£4000 ( AU$7547 ). They have a long way to go to catch the TR6, and almost certainly never will, although they will rise a long way from here now that the new technology is available.
