Toyota Supra's finally get into their stride, at over $40,000 in Australia
As we have been commenting on a great deal this year, the amazing Japanese cars have now finally come of age, particularly in Australia.
One such car that we always loved was the Toyota Supra JZ (JZA80 in The United Kingdom), and this car was revolutionary to look at as well as being a real performer. Whilst the Australian versions had the usual lower power output of 276 bhp (concerns over fuel grade), the version that appeared in Britain was quite serious, with an upgraded engine (smaller, steel wheeled turbochargers, bigger fuel injectors etc, which gave the car 320 bhp (239 kW) at 5600 rpm, and 427 Nm of torque at just 4000 rpm. This propelled the car from 0-60 mph in just 4.6 seconds, which was vere respectable !.
These cars had the notorious 2JZ-GTE Twin Turbo engine under the bonnet, and this coupled to a reasonable serious gearbox in the shape of the Getrag unit made this car turn not only the heads of onlookers that liked the shape, also attracting tuners worldwide and race teams. The car's brakes were also excellent, and so they were definitely heading in the direction of a Japanese supercar, or the U.K version was anyway.
There are plenty more Japanese cars rising in value fast, and we are out purchasing loads of them !!. We have particularly targetted the U.K spec Supra's, several of which have collected at our UK centre, prior to export to Australia for re-sale.
