$1.6 Million paid for a 1961 Mercedes 300 SL Hardtop Roadster in Le Mans sale

The Artcurial Motorcars Le Mans Classic auction that was held on the 5th of July, 2014, and reports that top prices were again being paid.

The Mercedes 300 SL realised exactly £887,172 ( AU$1,607195 ),and was the auction house's best ever Le Mans sale. Auctioneer Herve Poulain said of the Le Mans auction " Selling sports and racing cars at Le Mans Classic is like offering antique marbles at the foot of the Acropolis ".

All of the other top prices that were paid also featured European Classic Cars, with an 1964 AC Cobra 289 MKII being sold for £605,179 ( AU$1.096338 ), a 1991 Ferrari F40 for £549,830 ( AU$996,068 ), a 1967 Lamborghini 400GT for £483,428 ( AU$875,775 ), a 1958 Aston Martin DB2/4 MKIII Cabriolet for £478, 736 ( AU$867,275 ), a 1973 Porsche 911 2.7 Carrera RS for £461,638 ( AU$836,300 ), a 1968 Bizzarini 5300GT Strada for £426,568 ( AU$772,768 ), a1953 Aston Martin DB2 Cabriolet for £346,010 ( AU$626,829 ), a 1978 Lancia Stratos for £331,775 ( AU$601,041 ), and a 1960 Aston Martin DB4 Series 2 for £299,806 ( AU$543,126 ).
