E-Type Jaguars have tripled in value in just 3 years, say one of Lloyds of London Underwriters.

A specialist underwriter to Lloyds of London, White Oak Underwriting Agency, has found that the values of many specialist Classic cars have risen astronomically over recent years, with cars from the 1950's and 1960's leading the way, with the E-Type Jaguar out in front.

Fine art has also seen strong growth as well White Oak say, as people move away from volatile investments such as gold. Patricia Watling is the company’s jewellery and fine arts underwriter, and she says, " We keep a watchful eye on market developments, and both fine art and Classic Car values are doing very well, but we are aware that gold, traditionally a core holding for high net worth clients wanting additional investments outside of standard investments, is volatile ". Patricia goes on to say that White Oak are seeing very high prices being achieved at Classic Car auctions for exclusive marques such as Ferrari and Aston Martin.

Some examples given are :

  1. Jaguar E-Type. Values were GB£30-40,000 ( AU$ 54,550 - $72,700 ) in 2011, and are now GB£120,000 ( AU$ 218,200 )
  2. Aston Martin DB5. Values were GB£140,000 ( AU$ 254,500 ) in 2011, and are now GB£320,000 ( AU$ 581,800 )
  3. Triumph Stag. Values were GB£5,000 ( AU$ 9,100 ) in 2011, and are now GB£10,000 ( AU$ 18,200 )
