WRC rule changes finally on the way

The FIA WRC Commission president Carlos Barbosa has recently announced that some dramatic changes are finally coming to the WRC, after many years in the wilderness.

After much colaboration between all of the major stakeholders in the WRC, it has been decided that the car specifications will be much freer when 2017 comes around. The proposed rules include a totally free engine configuration with the allowance of any engine that the car bulider wishes to use, meaning that V8's, V6's and larger 4 cylinder engines will be seen in the new look WRC. The engine performance is to be controlled by fuel flow to create parity between manufacturers and teams, and will monitor both normally aspirated and turbocharged cars.

The move is designed to put the fun and variety back into the WRC, which currently has cars that are all quite small, and which all look visually almost identical. The new rules should allow more torque to be created from the new engines, increasing the spectacle.

Carlos Barbosa describes these changes as being part of the answer to bringing the fun back into the WRC, and has stated that " We must change things to make the WRC one of the top events in the world. WRC must be bigger ". He did go on to say that the new rules are being prepared, and will be tabled in December.
