Productivity Commission looks into Used Car Importation into Australia
Australia's Productivity Commisssion has been asked by the Government to review the current Used Car Importation Laws, with a view to composing a report on the subject.
Since 1989 Australia has had stringent laws in place that control the importation of used cars into the country. Prior to 1989, an Importer was allowed to bring virtually any make and model of car into Australia, in line with the practice throughout most of the other countries of the world. This meant that each and every make and model of vehicle that was available in Japan was able to be brought into this country, which was a task undertaken by a handful of select Importers in Western Australia and Queensland. During the late 1980's, Australia had an extremely limited range of vehicles available to consumers, most of them being built inside the country by either Holden or Ford. This meant that most of the cars driven by the Australian public were of either 6 or 8 cylinder configuration, mostly with plastic seats, and were without air conditioning. power steering, sunroofs, electric windows or mirrors, or indeed any other luxuries.
It is not every car manufacturer that produces cars that become Classics, just as it is not every model that is produced by any one manufacturer that goes on to rise in value by becoming Classic. Of course it is certainly the case that a long, sleek, aerodynamic and aesthetically pleasing motor car is far more likely to reach Classic Car status, although that is not the only determining factor. No, it is much, much more than that.
We are often asked what are the determining factors that make one Investment Vehicle rise while all others fall around them. To answer the question in part, we can turn to the Property Market, which comprises of properties in great areas, mid range properties in reasonable areas, and lower quality properties in outlying areas with little or no growth.
And so now it is the turn of the DB7. All sale prices in Europe have risen by up to 30% over the last 3 months, heralding the arrival of the next collectable Classic Car from Aston Martin. Initially, all of the Aston Martin models from the early cars right through to the Classic DB6 have experienced massive growth in their values, and for many years the growth in value of the Marque had stopped there. However, as with all hand-crafted cars, it was only a matter of time before values were to rise for this car, the sensational successor to the crown.
Once upon a time, some years back, there were a small number of cars built by Experts that were quick........ Very Quick. These cars were built by 6 manufacturers, and were the fastest Motor Cars on earth. They were quicker than the fastest of the Formula 1 cars of the day, as proved when a Peugeot 205 T16 raced a McLaren around the Nurburgring, and won. To be in their presence was simply breathtaking, and all that witnessed them in action never ever forgot the experience.
